Short(er) Surfboards
Shortboards, high performance or high volume shortboards have changed a lot in recent years. Generally pitched at a higher level of surfer, a shorter board is anything under 6’6.
From when surfing was more commonly split into longboarding and shortboarding, now we have small surfboards for small waves, often called grovellers. High volume shortboards often fit into this category, with a lot of wider, flatter rocker shortboards suiting UK summer waves.
These high volume shortboards can suit advanced surfers well in smaller conditions. In contrast for intermediate surfers, a more round and less aggressive floaty shortboard is the perfect match for taking their first leap into the world of shortboarding.
Sized below 6’6, some of our mid length models fit into the ‘Short(er)’ category, offering a user friendly, easy to paddle option compared to a small shortboard.
Twin fin shortboard surfboards have also diversified and it’s no longer certain that a twin fin is a fish, with the likes of the twin pin surfboard becoming popular. Twin fin surfboards offer the advanced surfer a different feel to a thruster (three fin). Described as being more fast, loose and responsive, they can be a great choice for sometimes poor UK surf conditions.
Changes in the specifications of a small surfboard, like shape, size, rocker and other factors, will affect how the board feels to the surfer and which surfboard is best for which conditions. All our boards are hand made in Cornwall, specifications and dimensions can be adjusted to ensure you get the right board for you.
