The Royale is a performance based mid that draws inspiration from the recent boom in this style of surfing. Differing from similar imports in design features, it’s been tested and tweaked to be the best mid length for UK surf - bonus it’s also 100% made in Cornwall.

Intermediate surfers love this mid length as a step down from their mini-mals, with decent thickness and volume under the chest providing the paddle power and a thinner more pulled in tail for improving carved turns.

More advanced surfers use it as an easy wave catching machine when it’s busy out back and you want to maximise your wave count. Sized well, this board is manageable to duck dive and can put you on big windy waves early - setting you up for speed down the line or cover-ups and barrels.

Usually ridden as a 2 + 1 fin set up, it’s also really fun as a twin fin .

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes - the Royale is a great step down from a mini-mal for intermediate surfers. The thickness and volume under the chest give you plenty of paddle power, while the thinner, more pulled-in tail helps you develop and improve carved turns. It's a board that will grow with your surfing rather than hold you back.

  • Standard sizes run from 6'10" (43L) to 7'0" (45L) and 7'2" (47L), but any custom size is available - speak to our shaper for personalised advice. The right dimensions depend on your weight, ability level, and the conditions you surf most. Getting the sizing right makes a big difference to how the board performs.

  • The Royale is genuinely versatile - it can be surfed from 2ft knee-high beach breaks all the way up to as big as you're comfortable with. Sized well, it's manageable to duck dive in punchy surf and paddles into big, windy waves early, setting you up for speed down the line, cover-ups, and barrels.

  • It's one of the best tools for busy days. More advanced surfers use it as an easy wave-catching machine when it's crowded out back - the extra volume and length means you can get into waves earlier than the shortboarders around you, maximising your wave count without sacrificing manoeuvrability.

  • The Royale has been designed, tested, and tweaked specifically for UK surf - not shaped for point breaks in warmer climates and shipped over. The design features differ from similar imports as a result, and because it's 100% made in Cornwall by our shaper, every board can be customised to your exact requirements rather than pulled off a production line.

  • The Royale is usually ridden as a 2+1 (twin fins with a small centre stabiliser), which gives a lively, manoeuvrable feel. It also works brilliantly as a pure mid-length twin fin if you want more drive and a looser, gliding feel. Both setups are worth trying depending on conditions and personal preference.
