The Poached is built around a hybrid concept: longboard nose and entry at the front, mid-length body through the middle, and a shorter, more pulled-in tail at the rear. This combination gives you the early paddle power and glide of a longboard up front, with the manoeuvrability and drive of a shorter board off the tail. Most mid-lengths sit somewhere in the middle of those two worlds — the Poached deliberately draws from both ends of the spectrum.
-
Yes — it's a firm favourite among longboarders who want something more manageable on bigger or punchier days. The longboard-inspired nose keeps that familiar glide and easy paddling feel, but the reduced bulk means it handles steeper waves better and is far easier to carry, transport, and duck dive. If you love longboarding but want one board that works across a wider range of conditions, the Poached is worth a serious look. -
The Poached is available in any fin configuration. For the shorter models (up to around 6'4"), a thruster (three-fin) setup is recommended, giving more drive and control in punchier surf. For anything 6'4" and above, a 2+1 setup works best — twin fins with a small centre stabiliser — which suits the longer, more glide-oriented feel of those sizes.
-
The Poached covers a wide range. Lighter improver surfers can get a lot from the larger sizes, where the volume and stability help with wave-catching and building confidence on green waves. At the other end, advanced surfers use it as a reliable small-wave board to maximise wave count on slower, mushier days. It's genuinely versatile across ability levels — sizing matters a lot, so it's worth speaking to our shaper.
-
The Poached handles ankle to just over head-high waves comfortably, and it's one of the few boards that works well in both onshore/mushy conditions and clean offshore surf. Smaller, slower UK waves are where it really shines — it generates its own speed and keeps things fun when other boards feel sluggish. For surfers dealing with the typical variability of UK conditions, it's a smart quiver choice.
-
It was built with UK surf in mind. Small-to-medium, often onshore, frequently inconsistent — the Poached is designed to be fun and functional in exactly those conditions. The longboard-style entry means it catches waves early even when the swell is weak, and the shortboard-influenced tail lets you make the most of whatever the wave gives you. It's handmade in Cornwall, shaped by someone who surfs these waves regularly.
